THE SACRED GEOMETRY

Concept

Inspired by the Muqarnas, an elevated 2D pattern to  3-dimensional geometries. The Muqarnas, in Arabic for stalactite vault, is a type of element used in architecture. It occurred and flourished between the 11th – 17th centuries.

Inspiration

In Mother Nature creations, and in Man-made formations; patterns are a harmonic rhythm that modulates form and space.

From a body perspective; it generates feelings of safety and eternity in the observer.

Ornamental patterns and geometries play a major role traditionally in the construction of everyday life. The reflection they add on the surroundings with different elements from Nature results in interaction with our perception in an abstract form of beauty combined with senses of spirituality and symbolism.

Process

Using two methods for producing the art work.

Installation

This art installation communicates with the public attending the library; the importance of time in connection to the concept of success in daily tasks. The number of twenty-four elements corresponds to the hours per day.

The elements were placed in two parallel lines that are extended from the floor through the building.

The installation is located on the main entrance of the Dals långed bibliotek (library building), within the premises of the University of Gothenburg and Stenebyskolan.
